In my last project my character turn around wasn’t overly proportionate, the shoulders and waist etc didn’t line up making modelling using image plans harder and inaccurate. A lesson learnt though, I have taken a lot more care to make sure everything lines up and in proportion to take into Maya. Hopefully this will speed up my process. Rulers in photoshop are the easiest way to sort out proportions, but I also used the light box to make out key lines mainly for my alien concept.
